Description

Soft layered sandwiches stacked into Christmas tree shapes with creamy filling and herb pesto. Finished with a festive bow or decorative pick. Easy, elegant, and perfect for parties!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1216 slices soft white sandwich bread (crusts removed)
  • 1 cup cream cheese (softened) OR herbed cream cheese spread
  • ½ cup pesto (basil, spinach, or parsley pesto)
  • Optional: sliced turkey, ham, or smoked chicken
  • Thin cucumber slices or shredded lettuce (optional)
  • Thin tomato slices (optional)
  • Crushed walnuts or almonds (optional, for crunch)
  • Powdered parmesan or finely grated cheese (snow effect)
  • Gold or wooden cocktail skewers
  • Small ribbon bows or gold ties (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread Layers: Remove crusts from all bread slices. Lightly roll each slice with a rolling pin to flatten (optional but helps stacking). Cut slices into squares: Large squares (bottom layer), Medium squares (middle layers), Small squares (top layer). This creates the Christmas tree “tiers.”
  2. Spread the Fillings: Prepare two spreads: A. Creamy White Layer: Spread cream cheese on some slices. B. Green Pesto Layer: Spread pesto generously on the other slices. Optional additions: Add one thin slice of turkey/ham/chicken. Add cucumbers or lettuce for freshness. Sprinkle nuts for crunch.
  3. Build the Sandwich Trees: For each tree: Start with a large square (cream cheese + pesto). Add another slice on top and gently press. Add a medium square with the opposite spread. Add another layer and a small square on top. You should have 3–4 stacked layers, creating a tapering Christmas tree shape.
  4. Secure with Skewers: Insert a decorative skewer through the center. Tie a tiny gold ribbon bow at the top for a festive finish.
  5. Add the Snow Effect: Sprinkle the tops with powdered parmesan or a touch of powdered sugar (for aesthetics only).
