A delightful recipe for candy apples that combines the classic treat with the whimsical flavors and colors of cotton candy.

- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Fuji, or Gala work well)
- 6 wooden sticks/skewers
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup light corn syrup
- ¾ cup water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- Gel food coloring (pink, purple, blue for cotton candy effect)
- Cotton candy flavoring (optional, available in baking supply shops)
- Edible glitter or sanding sugar (for sparkle, optional)
Instructions
- Wash and dry apples thoroughly to remove any wax coating.
- Insert wooden sticks into the tops of apples.
- Line a tray with parchment paper and lightly grease with nonstick spray.
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
- Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
- Attach a candy thermometer and boil without stirring until mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and cotton candy flavoring if using.
- Divide syrup into bowls and tint with different gel colors (pink, purple, blue).
- For a swirl effect, drizzle small amounts of each color back into one bowl and gently swirl (don’t overmix).
- Holding the stick, dip each apple into the candy coating, twisting gently to create a colorful cotton candy swirl.
- Immediately sprinkle with edible glitter or sanding sugar if desired.
- Place dipped apples on the prepared tray to harden.
- Once fully set, serve and enjoy the magical cotton candy look and flavor!
