Description

A delightful recipe for candy apples that combines the classic treat with the whimsical flavors and colors of cotton candy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Fuji, or Gala work well)
  • 6 wooden sticks/skewers
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • Gel food coloring (pink, purple, blue for cotton candy effect)
  • Cotton candy flavoring (optional, available in baking supply shops)
  • Edible glitter or sanding sugar (for sparkle, optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry apples thoroughly to remove any wax coating.
  2. Insert wooden sticks into the tops of apples.
  3. Line a tray with parchment paper and lightly grease with nonstick spray.
  4. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
  5. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
  6. Attach a candy thermometer and boil without stirring until mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  7. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and cotton candy flavoring if using.
  8. Divide syrup into bowls and tint with different gel colors (pink, purple, blue).
  9. For a swirl effect, drizzle small amounts of each color back into one bowl and gently swirl (don’t overmix).
  10. Holding the stick, dip each apple into the candy coating, twisting gently to create a colorful cotton candy swirl.
  11. Immediately sprinkle with edible glitter or sanding sugar if desired.
  12. Place dipped apples on the prepared tray to harden.
  13. Once fully set, serve and enjoy the magical cotton candy look and flavor!

Notes

  • Ensure apples are completely dry for better candy adherence.
