Description

A refreshing strawberry basil lemonade that’s perfect for hot days.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 and ½ cups granulated white sugar
  • 9 ounces (250 g) strawberries, fresh or frozen, halved
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh Italian basil leaves
  • 1 and ½ cups freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • chilled water or club soda (as required)
  • ice cubes (as required)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan combine water and sugar and cook over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved, stirring frequently.
  2. Add strawberries and basil leaves to the pan and stir gently.
  3. Reduce the heat to low.
  4. Let the syrup simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat and let the syrup cool down for 10 minutes.
  6. Transfer the syrup to the large jar of a blender along with lemon juice and blend until smooth.
  7. Add ½ cup of syrup to a tall serving glass.
  8. Add a halved strawberry, a few basil leaves, 1 lime round, and 4-5 ice cubes.
  9. Top with chilled club soda and stir gently.
  10. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • This lemonade can be adjusted to taste; add more or less sugar based on your preference.
  • For a fizzy version, ensure club soda is chilled before serving.
