Description

Delicious and vibrant homemade gumdrops coated in sugar, perfect for a sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups granulated sugar (plus extra for coating)
  • 1 ½ cups fruit juice (choose flavors like orange, grape, cranberry, lime, or mixed berry)
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup corn syrup (light)
  • 4 envelopes (1 oz total) unflavored gelatin
  • Food coloring (optional, to enhance vibrancy)
  • 1 tsp flavored extract (optional, e.g., lemon, orange, or raspberry)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper. Lightly coat with cooking spray for easy release.
  2. Bloom the Gelatin: In a large saucepan, combine fruit juice and gelatin. Let sit for 5 minutes to allow gelatin to bloom.
  3. Cook the Mixture: Add sugar, water, and corn syrup to the pan. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Bring to a gentle boil and cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in extract and food coloring (if using).
  4. Set the Gumdrops: Pour mixture into the prepared dish and smooth the top. Let sit at room temperature overnight (or at least 8 hours) until fully firm.
  5. Cut & Coat: Loosen edges with a knife and turn out onto a sugared surface. Cut into cubes with a sharp knife or use small cookie cutters for shapes. Roll each gumdrop in sugar until fully coated.

Notes

  • Experiment with different fruit juice flavors for variety.
  • Ensure the mixture is fully cooled before cutting to achieve the best texture.
  • Store gumdrops in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
