- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast
- ½ cup warm milk
- ¼ cup warm water
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ cup melted butter (for coating)
- 2 tbsp sugar (for sprinkling)
- 2 tbsp pearl sugar or coarse sugar (for topping, optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, water, sugar, and yeast. Let rest 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add egg, softened butter, and salt. Mix in flour gradually until a soft dough forms.
- Knead 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
- Punch dough down and divide into 12–15 equal balls.
- Roll each ball smooth, then dip lightly in melted butter.
- Arrange close together in a greased square or round baking dish.
- Cover and let rise another 30–40 minutes, until puffy.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Sprinkle dough with sugar or pearl sugar before baking.
- Bake 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush with extra melted butter after baking for extra softness.
- Serve warm and pull apart at the table.
Notes
- Ensure the milk and water are warm, not hot, to activate the yeast.
- For best results, let the dough rise in a warm place.
- Feel free to add cinnamon or other spices to the sugar for extra flavor.
