Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp distilled white vinegar
  • 12 tsp red food coloring (gel preferred)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk (more as needed for drizzling consistency)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Fresh raspberries
  • Vanilla ice cream (optional)
  • Mint leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, whisk eggs, buttermilk, oil, vanilla, and vinegar.
  3. Pour wet ingredients into dry and stir gently until just combined.
  4. Divide batter into two bowls: keep one plain, add red food coloring to the other for the red velvet swirl.
  5. Preheat waffle iron and grease lightly.
  6. Spoon alternating dollops of plain and red batter into the iron to create a marble effect.
  7. Cook waffles according to your iron’s instructions until golden and crisp.
  8. Beat cream cheese until smooth.
  9. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk; whisk until pourable. Adjust consistency with more milk if needed.
  10. Stack waffles on a plate. Drizzle generously with cream cheese sauce.
  11. Top with fresh raspberries, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and mint leaves.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use melted butter instead of vegetable oil.
  • Adjust the amount of red food coloring to achieve your desired color intensity.
