Description
Ooey Gooey Butter Cake is a rich and decadent dessert that features a thick, buttery base topped with a creamy, gooey layer, making it a delightful treat for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 cups (480 g) powdered sugar
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a bowl, mix cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg until combined (it will be thick). Press mixture evenly into the bottom of the baking dish.
- In another bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla, mix until combined. Gradually beat in powdered sugar until creamy. Pour this mixture over the base layer.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes. The edges should be golden and set, but the center should still be soft and gooey. Do not overbake (the gooey center is the star!).
- Let cake cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar before serving. Cut into squares and enjoy warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- For best results, use room temperature cream cheese.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- This cake can be served warm or chilled, depending on your preference.
