Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups milk (whole milk is recommended for richness)
- 1 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract (or vanilla bean paste for depth)
- 4 medium bananas (ripe for optimal flavor)
- 1 package vanilla wafers (gluten-free wafers if needed)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, to prevent browning)

- Once thickened, remove from heat and let cool for about 15 minutes.
- In a serving dish, layer custard, sliced bananas, and vanilla wafers. Repeat until ingredients are used up, finishing with custard.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Serve chilled, optionally garnished with banana slices and whipped cream.
Notes
- Can be prepared a day ahead for better flavor.
