Description

Delicious homemade bagels enriched with sun-dried tomatoes.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 cup sun dried tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Cornmeal, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the bread flour, salt, olive oil, and chopped sun dried tomatoes to the yeast mixture. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough into a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  5. Punch down the dough, divide it into 8 pieces, and shape each into a bagel.
  6. Drop each bagel into boiling water for about 1-2 minutes on each side, then place on a baking sheet dusted with cornmeal.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let them cool before serving.

  • Ensure the water is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast properly.
