Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450 g) large shrimp, peeled & deveined
- 2 tbsp butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- 1 tbsp butter (for sauce)
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 cup chicken broth
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp Cajun seasoning (for sauce)
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- ¼ tsp chili flakes (optional, for heat)
- Salt & pepper, to taste (for sauce)
- 2 lbs (900 g) potatoes, peeled & cubed
- 4 tbsp butter (for mashed potatoes)
- ½ cup warm milk (or heavy cream for richer texture)
- Salt & pepper, to taste (for mashed potatoes)
Instructions
- Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender (15–20 minutes). Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until creamy. Set aside.
- Season shrimp with Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. In a skillet, melt butter and sauté garlic until fragrant. Add shrimp, cooking 1–2 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Remove and keep warm.
- In the same skillet, melt butter, then whisk in flour to make a roux. Slowly pour in chicken broth, whisking until smooth. Stir in cream, Cajun seasoning, paprika, and chili flakes. Simmer until slightly thickened (3–4 minutes). Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
- Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates. Top with Cajun sauce, then arrange shrimp on top. Garnish with parsley and serve hot.
Notes
- For a spicier dish, increase the amount of chili flakes.
- Ensure shrimp are cooked just until pink to avoid overcooking.
- Mashed potatoes can be made ahead and reheated before serving.
