Description

Delicious spiced apple cookies that are perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for dough)

  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (for dough)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves (optional, for dough)
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar (for dough)
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ cup (120g) unsweetened apple sauce or apple puree
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger (for coating)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (for coating)
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves (optional, for coating)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.
  2. Add the eggs, vanilla, and apple sauce, mixing well.
  3. In another bowl, combine the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt, and spices.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Refrigerate dough for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and spices for coating.
  8. Form dough into balls, roll in the sugar mixture, and place on prepared sheets.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  10. Cool on a wire rack.
