- 2 cans refrigerated croissant (crescent) dough or puff pastry sheets
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cups whole milk
- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- 4 large egg yolks
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp butter
- Powdered sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and line a loaf pan.
- Roll out crescent/puff pastry dough, layering sheets inside the pan (brushing lightly with melted butter between layers).
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden and puffed. Let cool completely.
- In a saucepan, heat milk until steaming.
- In a bowl, whisk sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks until pale.
- Slowly whisk in hot milk, then return mixture to the saucepan.
- Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly until thickened.
- Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla. Chill until firm.
- Slice the croissant loaf horizontally in half.
- Spread thick layers of Boston cream filling inside. Replace the top layer.
- Heat heavy cream until hot but not boiling. Pour over chocolate chips and butter.
- Stir until smooth and glossy.
- Drizzle glaze generously over the loaf. Dust lightly with powdered sugar if desired.
