  • Gold, white, and pearl sprinkles (for decoration)
  • Crushed candy cane (optional, for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with 12 cupcake liners.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  5. Add dry ingredients in two parts, alternating with milk + sour cream.
  6. Mix just until combined—don’t overmix.
  7. Fill liners ⅔ full.
  8. Bake 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool completely before frosting.
  10. Beat butter until creamy and pale for the buttercream.
  11. Add powdered sugar one cup at a time.
  12. Add heavy cream and vanilla; whip until fluffy.
  13. Tint with green food coloring until you reach a vibrant “tree” shade.
  14. Transfer to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
  15. Pipe tall, swirled “tree-shaped” peaks on each cupcake.
  16. Add gold, pearl, and white sprinkles as ornaments.
  17. Top each cupcake with a peppermint swirl candy or truffle.
  18. Add crushed candy cane for sparkle if desired.
