Description

Cheesy Garlic Potato Buns are soft, fluffy buns filled with gooey mozzarella cheese and topped with a flavorful garlic butter mixture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium potato (about 150 g), boiled & mashed
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
  • ½ cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup warm water
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ½ cups mozzarella cheese (cubed or shredded)
  • ½ cup cheddar cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tsp dried)
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix yeast, warm water, and sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, mashed potato, egg, milk, and butter. Add yeast mixture.
  3. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise 1–1 ½ hours, until doubled.
  4. Punch down dough and divide into equal portions (8–10 pieces).
  5. Flatten each piece, place some mozzarella (and cheddar if using) in the center, then seal and shape into a ball.
  6. Arrange in a greased baking dish or lined tray, seam side down.
  7. Cover and let buns rise again for 30–40 minutes until puffy.
  8. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 18–22 minutes, until golden brown.
  9. Mix melted butter, garlic, parsley, and Parmesan.
  10. Brush generously over hot buns as soon as they come out of the oven.
  11. Enjoy warm — the cheese inside should be gooey and stretchy with every bite!

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes to the garlic butter topping.
  • These buns are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
  • Reheat in the oven for a few minutes to restore their softness.
