Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp cayenne (optional for heat)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 4 beef hot dogs
  • 4 hoagie or hot dog buns (toasted or butter-grilled)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (or cheddar-jack blend)
  • ½ cup red onion, finely diced
  • 2 tbsp parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 bag crinkle-cut fries (frozen or homemade)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Optional: drizzle of cheese sauce or extra chili on fries

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add onion and garlic; cook until softened.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add tomato sauce and beef broth. Simmer uncovered 15–20 minutes, until thickened.
  5. Bake or fry crinkle-cut fries according to package directions. Season with salt. Keep warm.
  6. Grill, boil, or pan-fry hot dogs until heated through. Place in toasted buns.
  7. Spoon hot chili generously over each hot dog. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar.
  8. Place under broiler 2–3 minutes until cheese is melty and bubbly. Top with diced red onion and parsley.
  9. Place cheesy chili dogs on a large serving platter. Arrange hot fries alongside.
  10. Optionally, load fries with more chili and cheese for extra indulgence.

Notes

  • Feel free to adjust the spice level by adding more or less cayenne.
  • For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef with lentils or a meat alternative.
  • Leftover chili can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
