Description

A delicious and easy beef and broccoli stir-fry, perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 lb broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable or avocado oil (divided)
  • 6 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
  • ½ cup water or beef broth
  • 3 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tsp fresh garlic, grated
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • sesame seeds (optional garnish)
  • chopped green onions (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Slice the flank steak thinly against the grain and toss it with 1 tsp soy sauce and 1 tsp cornstarch. Let it marinate for about 15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and sear for 1-2 minutes without stirring.
  3. Stir and cook the beef for another 1-2 minutes until nicely browned. Remove the beef and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, add 1 tbsp oil and the broccoli. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until bright green and slightly tender.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together all stir-fry sauce ingredients until smooth. Pour the sauce into the pan and stir for 1-2 minutes until it thickens.
  6. Return the beef and broccoli to the pan and toss to coat everything in the sauce. Let it simmer for another minute.
  7. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions if desired. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
