Description
A delicious twist on traditional lasagna, combining the flavors of a bacon cheeseburger in a convenient sheet pan format.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
- 2 Tbsp ketchup
- 1 Tbsp mustard (yellow or Dijon)
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 3 Tbsp butter
- 3 Tbsp flour
- 2½ cups milk (warm)
- 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup mozzarella, shredded
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 9–12 lasagna noodles, cooked al dente
- 1½ cups ricotta cheese (or cottage cheese)
- 1 large egg, beaten
- ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- 8 slices cooked bacon, chopped
- 1 cup extra shredded cheddar, for topping
- Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish
Instructions
- In a skillet, cook bacon until crispy. Transfer to paper towels, crumble, and set aside.
- In the same skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add onion and garlic, cooking until fragrant. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thick and saucy.
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute. Slowly add warm milk, whisking until smooth and thickened. Stir in cheddar and mozzarella, then season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat.
- In a bowl, combine ricotta, egg, and Parmesan. Stir until smooth.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a sheet pan or casserole dish. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Add a layer of noodles, followed by ricotta mixture, cheese sauce, and more meat sauce. Repeat until all layers are used, ending with cheese sauce on top. Sprinkle with extra cheddar and half the bacon crumbles.
- Cover loosely with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes, until bubbly and golden. Top with remaining bacon and fresh parsley. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños to the meat sauce.
- Feel free to substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- Make sure to let the lasagna rest before slicing for cleaner pieces.
